How Will They Hear?

How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed?

How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard?

And how will they hear without a preacher?

How will they preach unless they are sent?

Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!”

(Romans 10:14-15)

The Word of God is going forth in the Land of Israel.

Throughout the year the Bible Society in Israel has had many different opportunities to share the message of the Living Word of God in different events and occasions. We are grateful for this.

During the Christmas season there was a special festival to which more than 250,000 people, families and individuals, flocked. There was a very pleasant atmosphere and great openness amongst the people.

Local congregations and believers set up tables very well stocked with Bibles, New Testaments, books and DVDs in the major languages spoken in Israel: Hebrew, Russian, English, and Arabic. Thousands of people with their children streamed by and many of them stopped and gratefully received these free gifts.

On one side of the tables was a vendor roasting chestnuts and making crepes and at the other side was a fish restaurant with a large Santa Claus at the door. What a unique and happy atmosphere!

One Jewish man came to the table and was quite firm that Jesus was not a good person. After half an hour of conversation he took a book, The Messiah Revealed, to do his own study. A Jewish tour guide also came up and wanted to speak with a pastor as she had questions. A local pastor spoke with her for a while and others also shared with her. In the end, she took a few books and a Global New Testament (A NT written in six languages).

There were many engagements, conversations and dialogues with people about the faith in Christ and about the salvation that is through the Messiah. When people asked why we were giving away Scriptures and DVDs, we told them that this was the season to give gifts.

It was encouraging to hear of a woman to whom we offered a Hebrew New Testament saying that this book changed her life. At one point one of the young believers who was with us got up on a chair and spoke about the Lord and invited people to come and receive free materials. Another brother took his guitar and amplifier and sang songs by which more people were attracted to our table. At the end of the day, the Lord blessed us with a beautiful sunset.

Please pray that the Lord will prepare the hearts on which these good seeds have fallen and that through His spirit these seeds will not only take root but grow and bear more fruit for His kingdom and glory.
