Honor your parents

Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ”You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. Every one of you shall reverence his mother and his father, and you shall keep My Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.” Lev. 19:2-3 ◊ He who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. Ex. 21:17 ◊ “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. Then if I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My respect?” says the Lord of hosts to you. Mal. 1:6 ◊ A righteous man who walks in his integrity —How blessed are his sons after him. Prov. 20:7 ◊ A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. Prov. 13:1 ◊ It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with sons, for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them. Shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness. Heb. 12:7-10

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you. Ex. 20:12 ◊ Then I set before the men of the house of the Rechabites pitchers full of wine and cups, and I said to them, “Drink wine!” But they said, “We will not drink wine, for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, ‘You shall not drink wine, you or your sons, forever. You shall not build a house, and you shall not sow seed and you shall not plant a vineyard or own one. But in tents you shall dwell all your days, that you may live many days in the land where you sojourn.’ We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he commanded us, not to drink wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons or our daughters, nor to build ourselves houses to dwell in. And we do not have vineyard or field or seed. We have only dwelt in tents, and have obeyed and have done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.” Jer. 35:5-10 ◊ He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them, and His mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. Luke 2:51-52
