The seven verb patterns of Hebrew are called Binyanim. A Step by Step Guide to Modern Hebrew is a combination textbook and workbook. Nearly half of the book consists of exercises. There is an answer key so that a student can check his or her own progress.

Features for the beginner include an interesting way of learning the alphabet as well as a method writing English or foreign words in Hebrew. For the intermediate student, there are diagrams and tables to aid self-study as well as a listing of over 1200 verbs.

Inevitably in a book that simplifies a language, many of the rules stated here have exeptions. However, for the most part, these exceptions do not have to be known by the beginner or intermediate student.
