Torah Scroll Display

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)

Recently we received a Torah Scroll from Barbara and Ken Larson, a generous believing couple from the United States. It is now on display in our Bible museum.

Barbara and Ken have gifted Torah Scrolls to many bible colleges, seminaries, and ministries all across the world, and we at the Bible Society in Israel were thrilled to receive such a special gift.

Torah Scrolls, which contain the five books of Moses, can be found in every synagogue across the world. The Torah is held by modern-day Judaism as the most sacred portion of the entire Old Testament.

During the time of the Third Reich’s murderous conquest of Europe, the Nazis not only killed millions of Jews, but burned and destroyed many synagogues. In order to protect their Torah Scrolls from destruction, many Jews hid them before the Nazis arrived to their towns.

Our Torah is a German Torah, from the city of Fürth, and dates to the 16th century. It was hidden in an underground vault with 20 other Torahs by the chief rabbi and another Jewish leader on Kristallnacht, to save them from the Nazis.

All of the Jews from Fürth were eventually murdered and these Torahs were long-forgotten.

They were discovered by accident in 1967. Several were restored and rededicated for use in German synagogues. This Torah is a vivid symbol of God’s love for His people and of the indestructibility of His Word.

Thank you for your support in this project. With your donations we were able to build a new and well fitting display for this Torah Scroll. You are most welcome to visit our Store in Jerusalem and the Bible Museum located inside, where this Torah Scroll is presented.

We continue our ministry to share the word of God with the people of Israel through various ongoing Projects. If you would like to take a part in our ministry of spreading the word of God, you can give a Donation through this link for a general Donation, or you can donate to a specific Project. We are grateful for every donation you chose to give.

Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matt. 19:14)
